Day 33: Good Friday

So I was invited to attend the outdoor reenactment of the crucifixion of Jesus at the Catholic church in Clinton.  It was put on by the Hispanic members and the whole thing was in Spanish.  It was beautiful and awful at the same time---  I really don't know what to say.  It was an outside production and the "Jesus" had obviously played his part before.  I truly enjoyed being in the audience and was once again reminded of how I do like living in a small diverse community and being a Christian.  Oh by the way,  I lost another pound..... It was a  Good Friday.

eating cabbage

So I have been doing this for a month and I am still trying to get it right.  I decided to eat cabbage.  I have had cabbage with hummus, cabbage sautéed with bacon and chicken broth,  raw cabbage salad.  I must say,  I like cabbage.  I didn't really know I liked cabbage so much but I do.  I have always heard of the cabbage soup diet.  This is not what I am doing.  Just trying to find foods I like that are healthy.  I am also trying to eat lactose and gluten free but that is a whole other post.  Today I ate cabbage.

Day 24: The tale of two cities

If I didn't live in Clinton, Oklahoma I would definitely live in Sea Island, Georgia. I love the Southern way of life; the sweet tea, the yes ma'am- no ma'am, that macaroni and cheese is considered a vegetable, that little girls wear smocked dresses until they are 10 years old, the huge live oak trees lining the streets, that you put a monogram on anything and it makes it look better, and of course the OCEAN... you get the picture. Anyway, I live in Western Oklahoma where my boys love to play, work, hunt, shoot anything, drive anything, wear camo every chance they get, etc. I love living in Clinton with lots of land and having access to all of those things my boys love but there is just something about Sea Island. The tale of two cities.......

Day 23: The Woody

For awhile now I have been dreaming about a vintage Jeep Grand Wagoneer nicknamed " the woody". This obsession started when I was in 3rd grade and one of my best friends mothers drove this car. I always loved her car and was secretly excited when she took me home from carpool. I haven't seen a woody in almost 25 years. Well today as I was strolling around St. Simons Island, Georgia....... My dreams came true.

Day 17: Good news and a Pope

I had an anxious few minutes as I waited for the nurse to give me my results of the "thing" removed from my head.  BENIGN!!!   I had something called a seborrheic keratosis.  Well, now that it is good news,   I can complain about the itching unsightly mess on top of my head.  In the meantime, it was an exciting day for everyone with the election of the new Pope Francis I.  Although I am not Catholic,  I have many friends that are and it is always exciting to get a new religious world leader.  It is also fun to share the news with my 12 year old since I took him by myself to Rome last year.  Hope everyone is having a great day!!!!!

Day 15: Four pounds and a baby

12 1/2 years ago when I had my first baby I was so excited to loose all the weight I had gained during the pregnancy.  I went to the hospital weighing in at 178 lbs. and came home weighing 174 lbs. (with a  6 lb. baby in my arms).   Yes, you heard that right, 4 lbs.  I didn't even lose the 6 lbs. the baby weighed.  I'm still completely dumbfounded as to how that can be.  Anyway, I have been on this journey for 2 weeks now and I am proud to say that I have lost 4 lbs.  without a baby.........

A picture of me and my babies.  I did not eat this pie.

Day 13: Another one bites the dust

Big Steak.

For those of you who don't know,  my husband loves steak.  He also loves to cook steak for anyone who wants one.   Since I have been on this journey,  I have consumed lots of red meat.   Tonight I was starving so I had him cook me a big steak.  It was delicious.  Interestingly enough, I still lost weight.  So funny that eating red meat and giving up sugar and carbs could produce such results.  Another one bites the dust!!!!!!!!

Day 12: Looks can be deceiving

So I went to the dermatologist in OKC to have my usual checkup.  (I go every 6 months since I have extensive sun damage and have had 2 pre-melanomas removed from my back).  Well,  after a careful examination it was determined that I needed to remove a spot from my head.  "It is most likely harmless" says the doctor but better to be safe than sorry.  Three shots to the head later and a careful "shaving job"  it is gone.  Results to follow in a week.  In the meantime,  I am stuck with a bald spot on my head and no washing my hair with anything except neosporin for 2 days.  Looks can be deceiving........

Cute!

Day 11: Changs

For those of you who don't know,  I live in a very small town.  I live without Target, Whole Foods and Panera.  There are very few restaurants here that don't FRY everything.  In fact, we own a few of those FRY establishments.  Anyway,  to say I love to go out to eat is an understatement.  I love driving to Oklahoma City and planning where I am going to eat long before I get there.  One of my favorite spots is P. F. Changs.  I love the lettuce wraps, orange peel chicken, anything dumpling and especially the dan dan noodles.   I went to Changs today after deciding it couldn't be that fattening.   WRONG!!!! I asked for the nutrition guide.  After much searching they came up with one.  Sodium and calories people.  Every dish has at least 2-6 servings.  You think you are eating healthy but you are not.  It is very hard to go out to eat and stay on track.  Sometimes I guess it is a blessing I don't live close to all of those restaurants that I love.  Btw, I had lettuce wraps and something called shrimp with lobster sauce.  No rice.  It seemed to be a "good" choice at the time..........

Day 11:  3-7-2013

Weight:  144 lbs.

Exercise:  Eating

Food:  water, coffee, tea, protein bar, CHANGS!

Day 10: Bells

I love to play bells.  For some reason it makes me laugh and I am always happy at bell practice.  I don't know why this is but I find the whole thing funny and beautiful at the same time.  I retired once at bells but that was when I couldn't find a babysitter or I forgot to laugh.  Since my "comeback" the happiness and laughter is back in full swing.  I LOVE BELLS!!!!

Day 9: Weight Loss?

So, today I woke up and ran to the scale in my pajamas right after I went to the bathroom.  To my sheer happiness it said 144!!!!   That is a 2 lb. loss in my books.  I was so excited.  So after a meeting and eating lunch, I decided to work out and reweigh.  Well, we are back to 146.  So maybe I lost weight, maybe not.  I guess we will see what tomorrow morning brings.  The journey continues.......

Day 8: Slow Go

I have been on this journey for a week.  Due to soreness and too much fun in Big D, I have not made any progress on the scales.  It is a bit depressing that I haven't lost anything in 7 days and I even gained a little when I weighed myself this morning.  I guess I will be hitting it harder this week.  Now I remember why I have never wanted to have so much accountability to getting fit.  It is a road full of making good choices and HARD WORK.  Well,  I guess we will see what this week brings......

My college FRIEND

Friends:  The people you choose.  The people who know you and love you anyway.  The people who would stop everything to be there for you.  The people who encourage, love and listen.

I have always heard that if you have one friend you are extremely blessed.  I have many, but especially want to shout out to the three pictured above.  They represent my life.  They know me inside and out and love me anyway.  I couldn't live without them.  Thank you for being my friends.  I love you girls!!!!!!!!!!

Day 6: The Massage

So, I am at the spa getting a 50 minute massage.  The therapists greets me and says, "Sorry I am running behind, I just finished with a 2 hour apt."  I said, "No problem.  I just hope you have some strength left for me."   He said,  "Well the interesting thing about the last apt. is before her 2 hour massage, she had an 80 minute massage."  I stood there stunned.  300 minutes of massage??????  What?  Is that even possible.   Do people really do that?  I got undressed and laid in silence.  Trying to relax, I couldn't stop thinking about who is this person?  Who has the time, money, insight to book 300 minutes of massage.  So I asked, "Was this your regular client?"  "No.  I have never seen her before."   ....... I can't drop it, "Did she have an injury, a medical problem?"    "No."  he answers.  Still unable to process this  I ask, "How old was she?"  "Oh, about 35-40."  I process,  immediately judging this person for being so self indulgent.  In the meantime,  I start to completely enjoy this treatment of relieving my muscles of all their soreness and I start to sleep......  45 minutes later I think, this has to be the smartest woman alive!!!!!

Day 5: Big D

They say everything is bigger in Texas.  It is said that Dallas has more restaurants per capita than any other city.  I am in Dallas still celebrating my birthday but with consciousness. I went to one of those restaurants.  I ordered a salad.  Oh, and a drink called the basil gimlet.  Did I mention I had the halibut?   Will this girl get bigger in Texas?  I guess we will see on Monday.....
